Psychiatrist

Position Summary

The Psychiatrist is responsible for providing psychiatric evaluations, medication and education for those individuals who require further assessment and/or medication to assist in alleviating symptoms related to mental health difficulties. The Psychiatrist also consults with other staff regarding specific issues that impact on treatment.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides psychiatric evaluation for applicants whose diagnosis requires clarification and/or who need to be assessed for psychotropic medication;
  • Provides education about any medication prescribed and administers parenteral medication and supervises the use of any psychotropic medication;
  • Coordinates the use of psychotropic medications with the applicants' physician whenever the applicants have a co-existing physical condition;
  • Engages in consultation with other staff regarding diagnostic and treatment issues as needed;
  • Completes CPL 730 examinations for the court as requested;
  • Provides crisis intervention services as needed;
  • Provides psychiatric evaluations and medication supervision for inmates at the Putnam County Correctional Facility;
  • Dispenses samples of medication as deemed appropriate;
  • Provides Nurse Practitioners with supervision as specified in the collaborative agreements;
  • Completes evaluations for Social Security, VESID, Putnam County DSS and the judicial system as requested and with the cooperation of the applicant;
  • Attends staff development training seminars on current practices as directed by the Executive Director;
  • Undertakes related duties as assigned.
Administrative Relationships

The Psychiatrist reports to the Program Director for issues regarding case assignment, coordination and follow-up, and to the Medical Director for clinical supervision issues and collaborates with other staff.

Qualifications

Medical degree from an accredited medical school with a residency in child, adolescent or adult psychiatry and board eligibility in either child, adolescent or adult psychiatry. Board certification preferred. At least one year experience working with mentally ill adults and children. Current licensure by the New York State Education Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration is also required.

Social Worker

Position Summary

The Social Worker shall use psychotherapeutic skills in the provision of services to people with mental illness, and shall establish and maintain contact with professionals and family advocates in the community for the purpose of maximizing services for clients.

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities may include the following:

  • Provides individual, group, marital, family therapy and case management on site or in satellite sites;
  • Provides the intake and screening of new applicants and participates in clinical review/case disposition meetings where treatment recommendations are formulated;
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team conferences within agency when indicated;
  • Provides crisis intervention and makes recommendations for treatment and referral;
  • Coordinates and acts as a liaison with other community service providers;
  • Provides consultation and advocacy for individuals in inpatient, residential and independent living situations, including on-site visits and discharge meetings;
  • Compiles and writes case studies, reports and maintains records in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with appropriate regulations;
  • Collects and synthesizes data to assess an individual's needs;
  • Maintains information on community resources;
  • Determines the need for other treatment modalities and refers applicants to ancillary services;
  • Attends staff development training seminars on current practices as directed by the supervisor;
  • Meets productivity standards as set by program;
  • Coordinates treatment with other community based providers and with schools to maximize service for the individual and his/her family;
  • Participates in Tier 1 - CCSI meetings and other collaborative planning efforts with family advocates;
  • Undertakes related duties as assigned;
Administrative Relationship

Social Workers report directly to the Program Director, Program Coordinator or designee for clinical supervision, and collaborate with other staff.

Qualifications

Master's degree in social work from an accredited university. Licensure as a social worker by the New York State Education Department required and certification within six months of hire. A thorough knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic techniques used in mental health and the factors that contribute to personality development, and a thorough knowledge of the social factors affecting mental health are required. Must have basic computer literacy and excellent verbal and written skills. Valid driver's license required.
